Michigan allows you to complete your divorce without representation if you and your spouse can come to an agreement on what to do with your property and how you will care for any children that you may have. This is referred to as an uncontested divorce.
Michigan Residency Requirements
At least one spouse must have resided in Michigan for at least 180 days immediately before the divorce is filed.
Grounds For Divorce
Michigan is a no-fault divorce state. In a Michigan no-fault divorce, the spouses agree that there has been a “breakdown of the marriage relationship” to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved.
